 Thousands of veterans are expected to attend events | Events are being held throughout the UK to mark Veterans Awareness Week, falling midway between VE Day and VJ Day.
Here is a selection of the main events.
4 July: Prince Charles opens "living museum" in St James's Park, London, giving a flavour of what life was like in wartime Britain.
4-9 July: World War II lightshow every evening at dusk projected onto the facade of Buckingham Palace. Some images have not been seen previously.
5 July: Royal Mail releases new first class stamp showing St Paul's Cathedral during the Blitz.
9 July:The Queen unveils the Women's Memorial on Whitehall. The ceremony will be attended by seven women who won wartime George Medals.
10 July: National Commemoration Day. Events include a service at Westminster Abbey Service from 1100 BST, attended by the Queen, members of the Royal Family, senior politicians and more than 1,000 World War II veterans. A lunch for veterans will be held at Buckingham Palace, and after a parade of banners and standards along the Mall, the Queen will stand on the palace balcony as a Lancaster bomber drops a million poppies onto The Mall in memory of those who died.
