Views on respect: Sway

RESPECT IN UK SOCIETY

Sway, aka Sway DaSafo, was crowned best hip hop act at the 2005 Mobo Awards
The 23-year-old from north London had not even signed a record contract when he received the award

If the older generation believe the younger generation doesn't respect them, then I wouldn't disagree.

I've always been a respectful person. My family is from Ghana in West Africa - that's a place where you have to respect the older generation.

If a kid is being rude to someone older, you can give him a slap, or discipline him, then take him home and his parents will do the same thing.

But when I was at school in London no-one respected the teachers. The only discipline we had was detention.

It wasn't that they were older than you, it was because you didn't want to be on detention.

OTHER VIEWPOINTS

I am a respectful person, but I don't respect from fear. If anyone tries to instil fear in me, I despise them.

It starts at home - really and truly. It all depends on how you respect your parents.

But older people should stop talking about their days and how they had it harder than you.

The more you make a kid feel that life is easy for them, the more they feel like not listening to you.
