Holidays - who needs them?
Millions of employees will fail to take billions of days in holiday entitlement this year, a survey has suggested.

One in three workers will not take their full holiday entitlement, worth an estimated 14.5bn of holiday pay, a YouGov/Croner poll found.

Only one in five had taken their full holiday allowance for 2005.

That means companies could be breaching Working Time regulations that say all employees should have a minimum of four weeks' paid leave.

Days left

The survey polled 536 people whose holiday runs from January to December.

It said not taking holiday entitlement could hit business efficiency as staff who fail to take time off are more likely to suffer stress and other health problems.

A quarter still have seven days or more left to take and a further 26% have four to six days remaining.

Of the third who will not take their full holiday, 7% will lose that holiday entitlement at the end of the year.

Of the rest, 21% expect to carry it over to 2006, 4% will take payment instead.
