BP workers strike over pensions
Police watch petrol tankers outside BP Grangemouth refinery
Oil tanker drivers plan to walk out on Friday
Some tanker drivers at BP are planning to stage a five-day strike in a dispute over pensions, it has been announced.

The Transport & General Workers' Union said 74 drivers at the oil giant would walk out from Friday, affecting deliveries of petrol.

The dispute arose when the drivers were transferred to BP from private firm EXEL earlier this month.

They complained that their final salary pensions were changed to "inferior" money purchase schemes.

Ron Webb, national officer of the TGWU, described the situation as a "disgrace".

He said BP had enough money to keep paying final salary pensions.

Final talks will be held on Wednesday in an effort to prevent industrial action.

If the strike goes ahead it will hit BP depots across the country including Stanlow on Merseyside, Grangemouth in Scotland, Hamble in Hampshire, Kingsbury in the West Midlands and Coryton in Essex.
