Guinness book 'a record'
The book has chronicled records for more than 40 years
The Guinness Book of World Records is attempting to set a global record itself - for the biggest initial print run of a colour illustrated non-fiction book.
Guinness Publishers said that if all the 2.7 million copies of the millennium edition of the book were laid end to end they would reach from Barcelona to London.
The first copies of the book will leave the printers this week for 22 different destinations as far afield as Australia, South America and the Middle East.
The book, now in its 46th edition, is printed in 20 different languages and sold in 37 countries around the world.
Originally designed for pub landlords, the book first appeared in 1955.
It has since sold more than 80 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling copyright book in the world.
