Police in Australia have made a record seizure of the drug ecstasy, finding three million tablets in a bakery oven. The pills were hidden within the metal shell of the oven, which police say was imported from Poland, via Germany.
Customs officers X-rayed the equipment and spotted suspicious packages in the wall and base cavities.
Two men - both Australians - were arrested after taking delivery of the oven and allegedly removing its contents in a factory in Sydney.
Dozens of bags
The men have been charged with conspiring to import prohibited goods and attempting to possess prohibited imports, and could face lengthy prison sentences if they are convicted - though police did not give further details.
In all, 62 bags were found containing about three million tablets and 115kg (254 pounds) of MDMA powder, the active ingredient in ecstasy.
The haul was said to be worth about $200m (US$154m).
"Most of the MDMA we get in Australia is in fact sourced from Europe," said Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty.
"In this particular case the air freight came directly from Germany to Australia but we believe the origins are in Poland."
