The 30-year-old comes from the city and is the professional at nearby Newmachar Golf Club. Council officials want to acknowledge his win and are planning some kind of civic function in his honour.
"There is a feeling that something should be done to mark his achievement." The spokesman added: "The recess committee is made up of the leading figures of the council and sits to deal with anything that comes up during the summer break. "This is certainly on the agenda, but I am not aware that any plans have been formulated." Following his thrilling win at Carnoustie, Lawrie has been invited to play in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Hawaii in November. The tournament is 36 holes of matchplay between this season's four major winners with a first prize of $400,000 and even $100,000 for the players finishing last.
