Zara was taken to hospital as a precaution
The Queen's granddaughter, Zara Phillips, has been knocked unconscious in a fall from her horse.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital as a precaution following the fall and later driven home by her mother, the Princess Royal.

She had been competing in the horse trials at Lulworth in Dorset.

Ms Phillips, who is 11th in line to the throne, was given the all-clear by doctors at Dorchester hospital, Buckingham Palace said.

Ms Phillips is a keen sportswoman and plays hockey for Cheltenham Ladies College.

Olympic dream

But horses remain her first love, and she is a regular participant in hunting and three-day events around the country.

She has followed in her parents' footsteps by rising to the top echelons of the sport, finishing second against the world's elite at the Burghley Horse Trials in 2003.

Princess Anne represented Britain in the 1972 Olympic games and her father, Mark Phillips. took Olympic gold with the British team in 1976.

Ms Phillips narrowly missed out on a place in the British team for the Athens Olympics but she had been tipped to make it to the Beijing games in 2008.
