Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie have arrived in Greece ahead of the Olympic games.

The couple are expected to attend Friday's opening in Athens with dozens of world leaders, royalty and VIPs.

Vast security will protect the Olympic Stadium as athletes from 202 countries parade in front of the crowd.

The opening ceremony on Friday night will mark the end of a rocky seven-year build-up, and kick off 16 days of sporting action to unite the globe.

More than 10,500 athletes will participate in 28 different sports at 38 venues.

About 72,000 spectators and an estimated global audience of four billion will watch the opening ceremony.
