Severe storms forecast for Friday
Flooding at Beddgelert
England and Wales could be hit by weekend flooding
Heavy rain and wind are set to sweep across England and Wales on Friday and Saturday, with the possibility of flooding in places.

Southern England, south Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia could be among the worst hit areas.

Rain will turn to snow in the Scottish highlands, and while temperatures are in double figures elsewhere it will feel colder because of the wind.

Coastal areas could be buffeted by winds of up to 70mph.

Inland areas could get gusts of 60mph.

On Saturday, some thundery showers are forecast in the North and West, with gales on the south and western coasts.

The wind and heavy showers will continue on Sunday.

BBC weatherman Alex Deakin said: "On Friday, England and Wales will be the worst affected areas by severe gales.

"The bad weather will gradually move up to southern Scotland on Saturday.

Flood watches

"The gusts could lead to some disruption."

An Environment Agency spokeswoman said there was a possibility of floods in some parts.

She added: "We currently have two flood watches issued in Cambridgeshire.

"There is a possibility of further warnings being issued in Wales and the South East within the next few days."
