Thousands of people headed to Britain's parks and beaches

The whole country is "virtually guaranteed" fine, sunny weather on Sunday and some places could even hit 32C on Monday, the BBC's Michael Fish said.

The news has sent thousands of people heading to the country's beaches and parks to make the most of the sunshine.

It was also good news for more than 50,000 music fans, who gathered at Balado near Kinross for Scotland's T in the Park festival with bands including REM, the Flaming Lips and Coldplay.

Thunder storms

While Saturday's midday high of 25C in London was far from this year's highest temperature, Michael Fish said things were bound to warm up.

He said that Monday may well beat this summer's record of 30.5C, in Shepshed, Leicestershire, on 22 June.

"We could well see 29 to 30C on Sunday and places still left with the sun on Monday could indeed push up as high as 32C."

But, as always, the fine weather will not remain for the rest of the summer.

Michael Fish said thunder storms were likely to start arriving with a "bang" late on Sunday, sweeping in from the west.
