She wants the "inhumane" industry to be stopped, arguing that public attitudes to wearing fur have shifted against the fashion in recent years. Her bill is expected to receive government support, putting the farming of mink, the only animal bred for fur in the UK, under threat.
He told BBC One's Countryfile programme that his animals are not ill-treated in any way.
Although the number of fur farms in the UK has fallen to 11, the industry is still big business. About 180,000 mink are being bred in the UK, from a total of 24m worldwide. Animal rights campaigners argue that fur farming is unnecessary. But many fur farmers argue that a ban would boost the European market, including countries whose treatment has been condemned as much worse. | UK Contents
