Here is a round-up of the damage caused: Christopher pushed 16-year-old Ben clear as a tree was toppled by high winds at Costessey, near Norwich, Norfolk. Both Christopher and the family's dog were killed. However, conditions were not as severe as the great storm of October 1987. By Tuesday, power had not been restored to 64,000 homes in East Anglia and 15,000 homes in Wales. The cross-border rail link between England and Scotland was halted after landslides in East Lothian.
