The England captain tops the list of sport's richest young stars, according a tally of top earners to be published in this weekend's Sunday Times.
The soccer ace and his wife singer Victoria Beckham are together worth a total of 35m, placing Beckham ahead of Naseem who is worth a mere 30m. It means the star is also among Britain's wealthiest 1,000 people, in the list compiled by Philip Beresford. Deals His placing is higher than last year, when the player and his wife had their fortunes counted separately - on his own he was third at 12m. Beckham's high earnings were boosted by his recent deals with Pepsi and adidas.
Some of his Manchester United team-mates are in the same league - Roy Keane and Ryan Giggs are joint third with 13m apiece. Beckham and his wife make it to number 962 in the roll call of Britain's wealthiest people. Another high earner in the pop world is singer Robbie Williams - also estimated to be worth 35m. But by far the richest person in the UK music world is Sir Paul McCartney, who stays at 713m, still ahead of Lord Lloyd-Webber, who is runner-up on 420m.
His accounts should be boosted even further with lucrative live dates throughout this year. Music star maker Pete Waterman - a judge on ITV1's Pop Idol who helped launch the careers of Kylie Minogue and Steps - is a new entry to the list with a fortune of around 45m. And Sade, whose Lover's Rock album was a massive hit in the US, also makes a new entry with earnings of around 35m. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top UK stories now: Links to more UK stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
