Woodgate convicted of speeding
Jonathan Woodgate
Woodgate has completed 100 hours' community service
Leeds United footballer Jonathan Woodgate has been convicted of speeding, after being caught driving his Cherokee Jeep at more than 90 mph (145 km/h).

He was banned from driving for six months under the totting up procedure - but the disqualification was suspended pending an appeal.

Woodgate, believed to be worth around 10m, was also fined 500 plus ordered to pay 250 costs.

He had been recorded driving at an average speed of 97 mph (156 km/h) on the A19 near Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

Street attack

The 22-year-old, from Middlesbrough, did not attend the hearing at Richmond Magistrates Court.

He has completed 100 hours' community service after being found guilty of affray during a street attack on student Sarfraz Najeib.

His team-mate Lee Bowyer walked free from Hull Crown Court after being cleared of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and of affray by the jury at the same trial.

But both players were disciplined by Leeds United because their drunken behaviour breached the club's code of conduct.

Woodgate's friend Paul Clifford was jailed for six years for grievous bodily harm and affray in relation to the same incident.

The former England defender has been told he will not be considered for this summer's World Cup finals.
