The monarch wishes to ensure that the festivities are fun and inclusive of both Britain and the Commonwealth.

"The Queen has been closely involved in all the discussions about this whole weekend," her private secretary Sir Robin Janvrin said.

The celebration will include pop and classical concerts at Buckingham Palace, street parties and a music and dance parade down The Mall.

More details of the events have been unveiled on Wednesday.

"The Queen has been discussing these plans for very many months," Sir Robin said.

"She has also taken particular interest in the idea of community for the Jubilee.

"Above all the Queen wants the festival to be a celebration and I am absolutely confident that is what it is going to be."

Concert

Younger royals will attend a pop concert, a thanksgiving service and a festival.

A massive fireworks display is planned

On 1 June, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will listen to "Prom at the Palace" - a concert in the garden of Buckingham Palace.

The royal couple will attend a service at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle the following morning.

They will also take in a pop concert at Buckingham Palace - dubbed "Party at the Palace".

On the evening of 3 June, there will be a big fireworks display with photo projections on the facade of Buckingham Palace.

The Queen and Prince Philip will also light a beacon - one of more than 750 beacons illuminated throughout Britain and the Commonwealth. The farthest is in Antarctica.

Procession

On June 4 there will be a ceremonial procession from Buckingham Palace to St Paul's Cathedral.

Sir Michael Parker, producer of the weekend festival, rejected claims that Britain was not in a festive mood.
