Rides like Oblivion can be "terrifying"

"People will look at this new ride and will want to do it.

"It will have an image impact, if you like."

But she denied that people were turning away from the thrill-seeker rides.

"People like different types of experience.

"Some people go for the big rides that are really fast, with more loops than before, that give the big adrenaline rush," she said.

"We are a family theme park and this will appeal to a variety of age ranges from younger teenagers, that don't go on Nemesis, to pensioners."

The roller coaster has been designed by the world's leading ride builder, Swiss firm Bolliger and Mabillard, who made Nemesis.

Still 'hair-raising'

The unique aspect of the ride will be how passengers are carried.

"There are different ways of riding a ride; standing up, sitting in a car, hanging underneath," said Ms Greenwood.

"This is a different way of riding, but that bit's secret."

But she warned that the new ride will still be hair-raising.

"It won't be a walk in the park," she said.

"It will be exhilarating rather than terrifying, more of an emotional experience than the physical adrenaline jolt of Nemesis."

The new ride will be open for the start of next season on 16 March.
