Albert has been a resident at Walworth Castle Hotel for 14 years and has made hundreds of friends all over the world. The bird can now keep in touch with fans from as far afield as Australia and Japan. Chris Swaine, who owns the 12th Century hotel in Darlington, set up the e-mail and gave Albert a homepage on the castle website.
"Albert is very popular with the guests at the hotel and the children who come here love him to death," said Mr Swaine, 26. "Every birthday and Christmas he receives cards from all over the world, so I decided to give him his own e-mail address." Mr Swaine said Albert had already received a message from a fellow Darlington parrot called Jackson. Wrong sex "The e-mail has only been set up for a week and we are already getting messages from all over the place," he said. "Jackson's owners sent a message with a photograph of their parrot and complimented Albert on his plumage." Last year Mr Swaine discovered Albert was really female, but decided not to change the name. "We did not want to confuse his fans," he added. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top UK stories now: Links to more UK stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
