A holidaymaker has died while trying to rescue two young boys from the sea.

David Walsh, 40, of Alvaston, Derby had gone into the water off the Lincolnshire coast after seeing two children in difficulty.

Mr Walsh, who was on holiday with his wife, then got into difficulties himself.

The two boys, aged 10 and 13 managed to get to shore safely.

Mr Walsh was then spotted by an off-duty lifeboat man

Andrew Parker, 18, a member of the Skegness Inshore Lifeboat crew, went into the water and brought Mr Walsh out.

He was given first aid on the beach but could not be saved.

The two boys were taken to Skegness Hospital for a check up where they were reunited with their grandmother.

The family from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, were on holiday in Ingoldmells.

Lincolnshire police have launched an investigation.

A spokesman said: "At this stage it appears that it has been a tragic accident.

"A post mortem will be carried out on the dead man to establish a cause of death and this will be reported to the coroner."
