A third of all seaside incidents happen in July and August when the beaches are at their busiest, according to the agency.

Last year nearly 250 people died in accidents around Britain's coastline and 12,000 incidents were reported to coastguards.

The MCA's Peter Dymond, said: "Simple measures such as checking tide times, planning sailing trips carefully and tying kids' inflatables to the shore can all help to make Britain's beaches a safe place to holiday."

The hot weather the UK is currently enjoying is expected to continue until Thursday when thunder storms in the south east should see temperatures falling.

But hoteliers continue to enjoy a huge increase in trade, as holidaymakers cancel trips abroad and flock to seaside resorts.
