Quarry protesters arrested
Protestors
Villagers have been staging a series of protests
Ten people have been arrested during a protest at a quarry in Derbyshire.

They were campaigning against the dumping of nuclear waste.

Protestors have been at the Hilts Quarry as part of a round-the-clock protest for the last 10 days.

Problems began on Thursday when three vehicles turned up at the site.

The protesters blocked the entrance to the quarry and 20 police officers arrived.

They stood between the campaigners to allow the vehicles in.

During the incident, 10 people, including a woman holding a baby and toddler, were arrested.

Derbyshire Police said no charges were expected to be made.

Rolls Royce's marine division, which is based in Derby, admitted it had buried low-level radioactive waste at the quarry.

In a statement, the company said it had used the site for 30 years and its operation complied fully with all guidelines.
