'Turf, please gentlemen!'
The Taps pub
June and Ian Rigg say the turf is a success
A pub in Lancashire has been covered with turf to attract golf fans at the Open Championship on the Royal Lytham and St Annes golf course.

It has cost the owners of the The Taps pub in Lytham St Annes 400 to cover the entire wooden floor with grass.

The landlady, June Rigg, told BBC News Online: "We have had most of the golfers in ... but not Tiger Woods.

"We have had Tom Lehman and John Daly in and I think Colin Montgomerie came, but it is hard to spot them as there are so many people, including caddies and commentators."

The floor is being hosed down every night by the staff, who also have to go around picking cigarette ends off the grass.

There is even a bunker by the disabled toilet.

Mrs Rigg said: "We are not a big pub and you have to keep people interested.

"We also do beach parties when we fill the place with six tonnes of sand.

"The publicity has doubled our trade," she added.

There are also flags throughout the pub to make golf enthusiasts feel at home.

The Open Championship is due to finish on Sunday.
