A woman being held on remand in a Scottish prison has allegedly been physically and sexually assaulted by a group of nine women. The alleged attack happened the day after the 34-year-old woman arrived in Cornton Vale Prison, near Stirling.
Police report
The assault is alleged to have happened at Scotland's only all-women jail on 12 June.
Central Scotland Police said nine women, aged 21 to 41, were the subject of a report to be sent to the procurator fiscal.
A spokesman for Scottish Prison Service said the attack occurred in Ross House, the jail's remand block.
He said the woman was not seriously injured and did not need to go to hospital after receiving treatment in the prison's medical centre.
