City The England and Newcastle United midfielder Kieron Dyer has been banned from driving for two months and fined �1,000 for speeding. He admitted driving at more than 100mph while listening to Tiger Woods win the US Masters on the radio. At Chester-Le-Street Magistrates Court, Dyer, 22, was told by the chairman of the bench to take his hands out of his pockets. After the case, the footballer said: "What can I say? I am a Tiger Woods fan." The court heard how Dyer had been to Ipswich to visit his 11-month-old son on 8 April this year and was travelling back to the Stamp Exchange development in Newcastle.
Barry Warburton, defending, told the court Dyer's Mercedes was designed for cruising on Germany's autobahn. He said: "It is double-glazed and it is totally silent even at the speed Mr Dyer was travelling at. "He is keenly interested in golf and was apprehended just at the time Mr Woods managed to win the American Masters." The court was told that Dyer was a high earner. He was given 14 days to pay the �1,000 fine. |
