| Wednesday, 7 March, 2001, 17:01 GMT Families condemn sentence ![]() Jamie Holmes: 'We have all got life sentences' Relatives of some of the six people killed by Peter Noble have said his 15-year sentence - the longest in British legal history for causing death by dangerous driving - is not long enough. Jamie Holmes, 21, whose mother and two grandparents were among the dead, said: "We have all got life sentences. "Fifteen years is not enough. I think the sentence should be more."
"I nearly got into the Daewoo but in the end I went with my great aunt and uncle because there was not enough room," he said. Mr Holmes said he could never forgive Noble for what he had done. Mr Holmes' cousin Heather Rodgers also hit out at Noble. "He's shown no remorse and has been arrogant and shown no regard for any victims or the victims' families," she said.
Mr Holmes' uncle Brian Bailey called for a zero-tolerance attitude to drink-driving. "This accident has shown what can happen when people drink and drive, the tragic, awful consequences," he said. Cheryl Allen, whose brother, father-of-three Dennis Royston, 36, also died in the collision, added: "The sentence is not long enough. "Because of him I haven't got a brother." |
