| Friday, 16 February, 2001, 17:51 GMT Singer appeals for help to catch killer ![]() Mica Paris had a string of chart hits Singer Mica Paris has appealed for help in catching the killer of her brother, who was shot on Valentine's Day. The singer said she was devastated and shocked to learn her brother Jason Phillips had been shot outside a house in Shirley, near Croydon, south London on Tuesday afternoon.
The 22-year-old was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, where he was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. "This type of black-on-black crime must stop," she said, appealing for help to find the killer. 'Tragic time' "I will not rest until he is caught and made to answer for his heartless crime." Her brother, a father of two who worked for the Royal Mail, dreamed of becoming a music producer. "I and the rest of my family are devastated and shocked at the sudden death of my younger brother Jason Phillips," Ms Paris said. Police are appealing for witnesses to the shooting and want to speak to a black man seen driving away from the scene in a blue Volkswagen Golf. Paris, best known for her 1988 hit My One Temptation, said: "My family and I are taking strength from one another to try and get through this tragic time." |
