A 22-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with an alleged break-in at the home of Everton footballer Duncan Ferguson.

Michael Pratt, from Ormskirk, Lancashire, is accused of burglary at the footballer's converted barn in nearby Rufford on Sunday morning.

Mr Pratt did not speak during the five minute hearing before magistrates in Ormskirk on Tuesday afternoon.

He was granted bail on condition that he reside at an undisclosed address and that he make no attempt to contact Ferguson or any potential other witnesses.

He is due to reappear at the same court on Tuesday, 16 January.

Detectives in Lancashire are still hoping to question a 21-year-old also arrested in connection with the incident.

He is still in hospital following the alleged burglary.

Ferguson, a former Scotland international, suffered minor head injuries in the incident.

The striker's wife Janine and his six-and-a-half month old daughter were at home when the alleged break in took place.

In a statement issued through his solicitor, Kevin Dooley, Ferguson said he was thankful his wife and baby had not been injured.

The 29-year-old, 6ft 4in Scottish striker, rejoined Everton in a �3.75m transfer from Newcastle United in the summer.

He played in Everton's FA Cup victory against Watford on Saturday.
