| Sunday, 24 December, 2000, 17:56 GMT White Christmas for cancer toddler ![]() Dan and Pete Lomax gave Joshua their white Christmas A two-year-old recovering from treatment for a brain tumour awoke to a traditional winter wonderland of his own on Christmas Eve. While the rest of Alcester in Warwickshire endured grey skies and rain, Joshua Conway's house and garden were covered with snow and decorated with a snowman, a Christmas tree, and fairy lights as an early present from two of his neighbours. Pete Lomax, 17, and his brother Dan, 19, donated the white Christmas to Joshua after winning it from Coca-Cola by collecting more than 1,000 ring-pulls. Pete told the BBC: "We're a bit old for it so we thought, 'Why not give it to a little kid and make his Christmas?'"
His mother Kate, 21, told the BBC: "It's been an absolutely awful year. "He's suffered a lot of pain and distress so to have a wonderful Christmas like this is brilliant." A team of workmen shifted the snow from Tamworth Snowdome ski centre in Staffordshire in refrigerated trucks. And a delighted Joshua, who lives with his mother and her partner Toby Andrews, 24, made the most of it by getting out his sledge. Joshua need not worry that the snow might melt overnight. More snow will be brought to his house on Sunday night to make sure that Joshua has a white Christmas Day as well. |
