Zara Phillips hurt in car accident
Zara Phillips
Zara Phillips is Princess Anne's youngest child
Princess Anne's daughter Zara Phillips suffered minor facial injuries when she overturned her Land Rover in Gloucestershire on Friday.

Police said Zara, 19, was driving on a lane between Bourton-on-the-Water and Ford shortly before 0700GMT when the accident happened.

She suffered minor injuries and did not need medical treatment.

No other vehicle was involved and no one was travelling with the Princess's daughter.

Royal family informed

Gloucestershire Police attended the scene and required Zara to take a routine breath test, which was negative.

"She was driving on an unclassified road when the accident took place," said a police spokesman.

"Her Land Rover clipped a wall and landed upside down.

"She suffered minor facial injuries but did not require medical treatment."

Buckingham Palace said: "The Royal Family have been informed. Thankfully, Zara escaped without any serious injury."

Hazardous roads

It is thought Zara was travelling to the nearby stables of retired legendary trainer David Nicholson for an early morning ride out.

A member of staff at the Jackdaws Castle stables said they had received a telephone call to say that she had been involved in a car accident.

The accident happened on one of a warren of unclassified quiet country roads in the area.

In the summer the area attracts tourists from all over the world but in winter many of the smaller lanes are covered in slippery mud, causing hazardous driving conditions.
