The internet has been blamed for a rise in child porn crime |
A man has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for having sex with a 13-year-old girl he "groomed" on the internet. James Fleet, who was 20 and at Bangor University at the time, met the girl in a chat room, Winchester Crown Court heard.
Fleet, now 22, admitted abducting a child, two charges of sex with the girl, and five of making indecent photos of her.
He was also put on the sex offenders' register for life.
The court heard that he initially denied having sex with the girl when questioned by police, and was cautioned and released.
But he urged her to send indecent pictures of herself via her parents' webcam.
Fleet, who has now completed his degree, was eventually arrested at his student home in Bangor, and charged.
Judge Guy Boney QC told Fleet it was clear his interest in the girl was "sexual and not romantic".
He said Fleet had a clear sexual interest in children, even though he found it hard to admit.
As well as his jail term, Fleet will remain "on licence" for three -and-a-half years after his release and will be banned for life from working with children.
The court was told Fleet had previously been given a two-year community rehabilitation order after pleading guilty to seven charges of having indecent images of children on his university computer.
