British comedy legend Ronnie Barker has died at his home after a long illness.

This is the second page of your tributes.

Your tributes

A sad loss of one of the great British talents
Ollie, Manchester, UK
When I was young my dad used to have tears in his eyes while watching Ronnie Barker - and when I was older I had the same. A sad loss of one of the great British talents. Thank you Ron, for all those tears.
Ollie, Manchester, UK

Ronnie has always been my favourite performer. His comedy timing and ability to make all people laugh was amazing. They broke the mould when they made him.
Gareth Lawson, Newcastle, UK

A true comedy great who will be greatly missed. The high quality output over the years produced such comedy greats such as Open All Hours, Clarence and Porridge. The world of entertainment has lost a real star and a true comedian. I hope that all of his classics are repeated as they can be watched by all of the family. Thank you Ronnie for so much comedy, what a fantastic legacy.
Barry Street, Frimley, England

Ronnie Barker was a comic genius and his talent and wonderful contributions to our entertainment over the years should have been recognized with a knighthood long ago. But it is great to read the comments here and see how much he was appreciated by everyone.
Rachel, Rochdale, England

Really sad news - another genius has left the stage.
Nick Tompkins, London

He will always make you laugh
D Casey, Chinnor, Oxford
Ronnie Barker was one of the best comedy actors ever, We still watch him in Open all Hours and Porridge etc. It doesn't matter how many times you watch them, he will always make you laugh. He will be sadly missed. Ronnie was a very friendly person when my daughter met him in a large well known department store. He sat down with her in the restaurant area and chatted with her for a while and of course gave her his autograph which she will now treasure. God bless you Ronnie.
D Casey, Chinnor, Oxford

My son was 4 on Sunday and we were at a country show complete with surprise birthday cake. My wife suddenly realised she had left the candles at home - this was just as we were walking past a gardening stand and yes, I picked up a fork handle and suggested sticking it in the cake. 'Four candles' epitomised Ronnie Barker's wit and I still laugh out loud when it comes to mind. He will be sorely missed but he has left us with a precious legacy.
Martin Haley, Caversham, Berkshire

It was my birthday last Friday and my wife bought me Porridge on DVD. It is one of the best situation comedies the UK have ever produced. I have not watched it yet, but will now do so with extra sadness.
Alan Carpenter, Solihull, UK

I remember him in Porridge, the line right at the end where the prison boss ate the tablets for the dog. His cell mate asks him how the prison governor is feeling; Fletcher answers "Ruff-ruff". A classic line.
John Jones, Denny Scotland

"And its goodnight from him" Thank you for the laughs Ronnie.
Kevin Walters, Leeds

Ronnie gave me and my family many hours of fun. He was a tonic and I loved his humour. He was a great man.
Bob, Basingstoke

Without a doubt the most superlative comedy genius
Paul, Hertfordshire, UK
Without a doubt the most superlative comedy genius. Was a very intelligent man who created some of TV's best characters, the best being Fletcher! A tribute to the man who made 'real' comedy for all ages and all generations.
Paul, Hertfordshire, UK

For me, Ronnie Barker was the most gifted comedian of all time. As a young lad growing up in England, Saturday nights watching the Two Ronnies and later Porridge and Open All Hours were a real highlight. I've never felt moved by the death of someone outside of my family until now. That for me, says it all. Rest in Peace Ronnie. You were and still are the best.
Marc Holmes, Stuttgart, Germany

A legend that will live on forever in our hearts.
Chris, Greenock

A great comedy legend gone he will be missed by many. RIP Ronnie
Robert Jones, Gwent South Wales

For me growing up as a child, Ronnie Barker was the comedy blueprint. From a simple facial expression to master wordplay he gave me tears of laughter. My Comedy Hero will be sadly missed.
Phil Griffiths, Birmingham

Another of my comic heroes gone, such a genius - God Bless and RIP
Anne Wartnaby, Buckhurst Hill, Essex

Never has there been or will be, another funnier, lovable and clever comedian/script writer like Ronnie. How many tv shows will be able to command 17 million viewers on a Saturday night? Answer none. God bless and thank you for fantasic funny memories
Nick Boxall, Petworth

And so it really is time to say "And it's goodnight from him". Goodnight, Ronnie, and thank you. For the many laughs and the legacy you have left us. Sleep well.
Chris, Wuppertal, Germany

A "comic genius" is the epitaph which will be cemented into history.
Anthony James, Auckland, New Zealand.

He could portray a stereotype without patronising them
Dave, Manchester
I loved all his characters, but strangely, as a stammerer, I really enjoyed and identified with those bitter-sweet moments when Arkrite was lost for words. I think that was the genius of the man, he could portray a stereotype without patronising them. You were laughing along not laughing at, genius.
Dave, Manchester

We have lost the greatest television comedy actor and writer. Thank you for all the laughs, your work was timeless and generations to come will still be laughing at it.
Andy Rockall, Buckhurst Hill

Just read the news and am absolutely gutted to hear of this great man's death. I laughed out loud countless times to his pure wit and comic talent. My deepest sympathy to his family.
Ross, Kettering, UK

Ronnie Barker was quite simply a legend. There will never be another like him.
Chris E, Norwich, England

Thanks for all the laughs Ronnie, we'll miss you
S. Weekes, Cardiff
As Arkwright, as Fletcher, as any of the myriad characters he played with Ronnie Corbett, and of course as a writer, he was nothing short of brilliant. Thanks for all the laughs Ronnie, we'll miss you.
S. Weekes, Cardiff

So much to thank him for- all the family loved him.
Lucy, Sydney, Australia

Up there with the greatest comedy legends ever. Thanks for making me laugh. Sorely missed.
Kevin Phillips, Milton Keynes, England

A very sad loss. Porridge is my favourite all time comedy programme. Ronnie was such a nice person, like everyone's dad.
Janice Jackson, Melton Mowbray, England

This is a terrible shock. He was a comedy giant in every sense of the word. Rest in peace Ron, you'll have em laughing in heaven I have no doubt.
Graham, Harlow, Essex

My husband (a German) and I are great fans of Porridge and Open All hours. While visiting Chipping Camden we looked through a window of an antique shop and the owner Ronnie Barker saluted at us. We went inside and had a chat with him, told him that he was one of our favourite and he sorted through a pile of old postcards, found one of Frankfurt am Main, signed it and gave it to my husband - he was thrilled. A very sad day that such a wonderfully funny man has passed away. Something for the angels now to laugh at !!!
Elizabeth Ann Schmidt, Schwalbach/Germany

Ronnie Barker was one of the best and most loved comedy actors and writers and one of the few people who could make me cry with laughter. He will be very sadly missed.
Lynne, Tyne and Wear

Sitting around at Christmas with the family watching the Two Ronnies, laughing and having a good time, always made Christmas, Christmas.
Craig Baker, Wenvoe, Cardiff

His writing, acting and comedy performance will never be matched
Jamie Brown, Edinburgh
An absolute genius who with quip, inflection or even subtle gesture could make millions laugh. His writing, acting and comedy performance will never be matched. Thanks Ronnie.
Jamie Brown, Edinburgh

This is a very sad day. I had the pleasure of seeing the Two Ronnies in person at the BBC last year. It was a special night, made all the more special now that we have finally said goodnight to Ron B.
David Traynier, Colchester, UK

He was truly great, I will always remember him for the classic sketch he did as the vicar giving the sermon in cockney slang. Absolutely fantastic. We will all miss you Ronnie.
Sanjay Khosla, Nottingham

British comedy has lost an icon. The likes of The Two Ronnies, Porridge, Open All Hours etc are classics which will live for ever as will his memory in our hearts. Who can forget the "Fork Andles" sketch. A sad loss for Britain and for comedy. God bless Ronnie.
Duncan Millar, Sheffield, UK

It was only this weekend at a family christening that my mother was trying to explain the "Fork Handles/Four Candles" sketch to my children. Although they are still a bit too young to appreciate the humour, I couldn't help laughing at the memories of that sketch. What fond memories of an era of pure comic genius. Mr Barker, you will be sorely missed.
Dave Craddock, Seaford, East Sussex

I've never before written a condolence letter on anyone famous before. But in Ronnie Barker's case I feel a duty in doing so. I'm 30 years old and grew up watching open all hours, Porridge and the Two Ronnies and with sadness in my heart and a tear in my eye, I want to say thank you for making me laugh and smile the way you did. From a young boy to the man I am now, you never failed to cheer even the saddest soul. You'll be sadly missed but forever loved. So it's good night from me, and it's good night from him. Thank you Ronnie.
Gareth Waller, Croydon, England

With the name of Fletcher I was always going to go through school in the 1970's with the nickname 'Norman Stanley'. Thanks for that Ronnie and the rest of the laughs. Give my regards to Lenny Godber.
Chris Fletcher, Farnham

The Two Ronnies were without doubt the best comedy double act of all time
Iain, Glasgow
Forget Morcambe and Wise, The Two Ronnies were without doubt the best comedy double act of all time. Ronnie Barker is a major part of television history in this country and in this era of 'here today gone tomorrow' TV stars, lets hope Ronnie Barker receives the tributes he so richly deserves.
Iain, Glasgow

What a sad, sad loss, to his wife, family and friends as well as his public, to say he will be missed is an understatement. Easily the funniest man on television and one of the most versatile as well. Thanks Ronnie for making us all laugh.
Euan Webster, Southampton, England

Porridge and Open all Hours were my childhood classics, and I would like to say a fond farewell to the gentleman of comedy, all the best Fletcher.
Ryan Slater, Stoke-On-Trent, UK

I grew up on the Two Ronnies as my 77-year-old dad is a huge fan and now my 13-year-old daughter has discovered Open All Hours on Sky and loves it. Comedians like this are very few and far between. Ronnie, you are a legend and will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace.
Lisa Kent, Essex, England

Deepest sympathy to Ronnie's family. This is a sad loss to a comedy legend. He was a great writer and performer, and his command of the English language used within comedy sketches will never be surpassed. Please bring back the re-runs of every series asap.
Simon, Birmingham, UK

Ronnie Barker epitomised the comic backbone of our nation
Simon Abbott, London
Ronnie Barker epitomised the comic backbone of our nation. Light-hearted, irreverent and often silly humour that was truly wonderful and which has stood the test of time. Thank you Ronnie Barker for bringing laughter to so many for so long.
Simon Abbott, London

Ronnie Barker was one of the greats. As viewers we have a huge legacy to enjoy; my thoughts will be with his family.
Guy Clapperton, London

This is such sad news. I grew up with The Two Ronnies and Open All Hours. We have lost a classic actor and comedian. All the sketches and sitcoms he did can never be surpassed in terms of originality and pure entertainment.
Charles, Crawley

Martin Haley, Caversham, Berkshire

One of the few people I respected in entertainment industry with his amazing talent and his great sense of humour. Even though I never met him, I will always remember him as the wonderful Arkwright chasing Nurse Gladys. He will be missed.
Aycan Semizer, Istanbul, Turkey

He was a genius and will be sorely missed
Darren Whitmarsh, Birmingham, England

A loveable legend who mixed humour with quiet brilliance to devastating effect. He will be sorely missed.
Sarah Dukan, London

A comedy legend has passed away. RIP Ronnie. Nothing is funnier than the Four Candles/Fork Handles sketch.
Steven Kilcline, Malvern

Young or old, this great man will be missed by all.
David, Fife, Scotland

Without any shadow of a doubt Ronnie Baker was one of the best comedians to have come out of this country, the only shame is that a talent like his, unique and brilliant, was never honoured with a knighthood.
Iqbal, London

A proper comedian. No filth, no swearing, just good fun and good acting for all the family.
M, Croydon

Ronnie made me laugh even before he spoke a word on screen
Freddie Sandford, London, England
Master of comedy, Ronnie made me laugh even before he spoke a word on screen. He will be sorely missed. What a great man.
Freddie Sandford, London, England

I can't think of any other TV performer who has given so much pleasure to so many people for so long. On behalf of the nation, thank you Ronnie.
Phil Broughton, Stamford, England

Thanks for the Fork Handles, Ronnie. Huge, huge loss to the entertainment world. Remarkably unique talent. A gaping hole has emerged in the industry today and no one will be able to fill it.
Madeline, Isle of Wight, UK

If anything reminds me of being a kid, it's the Two Ronnies, I used to love it, my eight-year-old son saw it for the first time last year and he loved it too.
Andy East, Lancaster

One of the funniest men ever. Witty, clever, but never nasty humour
Joe, Hereford, England
