The distinctive character of the English market towns is under threat, according to a new report. The Campaign to Protect Rural England is calling on residents living in rural market towns to safeguard England's landscape from being destroyed by development.
Unique high streets in countryside towns and villages are being increasingly dominated by takeaway outlets and chain stores, it said.
