The Committee of Drugs Control in India has given its approval for the anti-impotence drug, Viagra, to be sold there.

However, the drug is likely to only be available on prescription and it's not yet known when it will go on sale in India.

Correspondents say the government's approval is not the only obstacle for Indians hoping to obtain Viagra.

They say the drugs manufacturer, Pfizer, will also need reassuring that its formula will not be copied by local manufacturers.
