Troops ready for Afghanistan offensive

British, US and Afghan forces are preparing for one of their largest counter-insurgency operations in Afghanistan since the conflict began in 2001.

Villages are emptying in the Taliban-controlled area around Marja, in Helmand province, as thousands flee before the fighting begins.

UK Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth has warned that coalition casualties should be expected during the offensive.
