Afghanistan prepares for elections

Practical preparations are under way for polling in Afghanistan ahead of elections on Thursday.

Deputy Electoral Officer Zakria Barakazi, of the Independent Electoral Commission, gave a press conference to announce the end of campaigning at midnight.

Former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah, seen as the main rival to President Karzai, held a late rally with supporters, as ballot boxes were sent out to local polling stations.
