Karachi suffers major power cut

Many people are now relying on generators

Engineers in the Pakistani city of Karachi are working to restore power supplies following a blackout which affected millions of residents.

Major industries closed and essential services were suspended while residents coped with high overnight temperatures without fans or air conditioning.

The Pakistani minister for power, Raja Ashraf, told parliament that the power cut was caused by a technical fault.

Pakistan's power grid is unable to cope with rising demand for electricity.
