Police in the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay) say they have freed nearly 450 child labourers in a series of raids. Forty-two people were arrested on suspicion of recruiting the children, who appeared malnourished, police said.
They said the children, aged between five and 14, had been brought to work in small workshops in Mumbai making leather goods, clothes and jewellery.
Employing children under 14 is illegal in India, but child welfare groups say the practice is widespread.
