A grenade attack on a political rally in north-eastern Bangladesh has killed a prominent member of the opposition Awami League and four other people. Shah AMS Kibria, a former finance minister, died in hospital of injuries he received when the grenade was thrown just after he delivered a speech.
Many other people were injured in the blast in Laskarpur, Habiganj District.
Rioters attacked vehicles and shops after Thursday's blast and the League has called for two days of protests.
It blamed the government of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia for the attack.
There was no immediate word from the Bangladeshi authorities while police began an investigation.
In August, the League's leader, Sheikh Hasina, survived a grenade attack on a rally in the capital, Dhaka, in which 22 people were killed.
Ivy Rahman, who headed the League's women's wing, was killed in that attack.
