Train commuters in India's busiest city of Mumbai (Bombay) were left stranded for over an hour when power supplies to the city and its suburbs were cut. The cut meant that dozens of commuter trains ground to a halt, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at most stations.
Even after electricity was restored, normal train services were affected for several hours.
Unlike other cities, power cuts and electricity theft in Mumbai are rare.
Tata Power, which supplies 1,330 MW of power to Mumbai, said that power was disrupted for an hour due to a technical snag.
The BBC's Zubair Ahmed in Mumbai says that the Maharashtra State Electricity Board has been reeling under severe power shortages with electricity theft - or load-shedding - being carried out in various parts of the state.
