Stars defy Buddhist protest
The organisers of a Bollywood show due to take place on Saturday in Sri Lanka say it will go ahead despite protests by Buddhist monks.

The monks say the event should be postponed because it coincides with the anniversary of the death of a senior Buddhist monk, Gangodawila Soma.

The monks say the weekend should be reserved for religious observances.

A number of Bollywood stars are due to appear in the event, in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.

One of the participants in the show, the film star Shahrukh Khan, said the organisers had agreed to hold a two-minute silence before the show began, as a mark of respect.
