The judge, Syed Shahidur Rahman, is accused of accepting money to fix bail for a former client.

The Bangladeshi Law Minister, Moudud Ahmed, said that although a judicial investigation had failed to prove the allegations against the judge beyond any doubt, it could not, at the same time, conclude that the allegations were baseless.

Mr Ahmed said the decision to remove the judge was taken in order to uphold the dignity and reputation of the country's judicial system.
