At least 12 people have died and dozens hurt in a collision between two ferries in Bangladesh, witnesses say. The boats collided in heavy fog in the early hours of the morning on the river Arial Khan, near the town of Barisal.
Police are searching for survivors and bodies - several hundred passengers were believed to aboard the vessels.
Accidents involving Bangladesh's overcrowded ferries average at least 10 a year, says the BBC's Dhaka correspondent, Roland Buerk.
The accident happened as millions of Bangladeshis began journeying back to towns and cities, having spent the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha at their home villages.
The boats are believed to have been travelling in opposite directions when they crashed into each other.
One of the boats was left partially submerged in the river.
