The Indian Deputy Prime Minister, LK Advani, has welcomed a move by the United States Treasury Department to declare India's most wanted man a global terrorist. The man, Dawood Ibrahim, is suspected by the Indian authorities of involvement in a spate of bombings, including an explosion in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) 10 years ago which killed more than 300 people.
A notice posted on the Treasury Department's website said any assets Dawood Ibrahim might have in the US would be frozen and his transactions with US nationals forbidden.
India alleges that Dawood Ibrahim lives in the city of Karachi, but the government of Pakistan has always denied this.
