Police in southern India say they have uncovered a racket involving the illegal trade in human kidneys. They have arrested 13 people they believe are members of a gang responsible for selling more than 50 kidneys for transplants over the past few years.
The police say the Hyderabad gang facilitated the organ transplants by pretending the donors and recipients were blood relatives.
The Indian police say they are also investigating the role of several doctors at hospitals in the city.
