| Thursday, 31 October, 2002, 05:11 GMT Bangladeshis win UNDP award Two urban planners from Bangladesh have been given a special award by the United Nations in recognition of their efforts to fight poverty. Maqsood Sinha and Iftekhar Enayetullah are co-founders of Waste Concern, an organisation that helped local communities make money from organic waste, while at the same time reducing the hazards posed by discarded rubbish. Using simple technology, the waste is processed into compost which is then sold for fertilizer. The United Nations Development Programme said the idea is now spreading and being used to benefit poor people in other parts of the world.
