Three former Gurkha soldiers, who fought for Britain in the Second World War and were captured by the Japanese, are seeking compensation in the British High Court.

The men, Pahalman Gurung, Gaurisor Thapa and Hukumsing Pun, are in their 80s and have travelled from Nepal to challenge a British Government ruling that excluded them from a compensation fund set up two years ago to benefit former British prisoners of war.

They say they're victims of unequal treatment and racial discrimination.

If they win, they will receive payments of $15,000 each.

The challenge is one of a series of discrimination cases brought by Gurkha soldiers against the British Government.

The main one alleges discrimination against them in pay and pensions; if the British government loses it could be liable to pay $3bn.
