| Wednesday, 30 October, 2002, 05:00 GMT Indian farmers plan hunger strike Farmers in the state of Karnataka, in southern India, say they will begin an indefinite fast on Wednesday. They are protesting at a decision by the state government to release water from the Cauvery river basin to the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. The farmers say the move, which follows a Supreme Court ruling, will jeopardise water supplies in Karnataka itself. On Tuesday, a group of farmers attacked a legislator's house in Mandya district. Trains between Bangalore and Mysore are expected to be disrupted again on Wednesday, because of the unrest.
