A BBC correspondent in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir says there is no independent confirmation of the claims and they are difficult to verify. The US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, during his visit to India and Pakistan, said that the number of cross-border attacks had declined. The Pakistani president was adamant that infiltration had stopped and that Indian allegations were completely baseless. The issue brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war earlier this year.
