Bangladeshi experts say they have detected dangerous levels of a poisonous chemical - aflatoxin - in poultry feeds available on the market.

Scientists at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute have warned that high levels of the toxin - which can cause cancer in humans - may also be present in live animals and poultry products supplied by commercial farms.

The Institute's director told the BBC that contamination was found in chickens and eggs - but so far there were no reports of related illnesses among humans.

Experts say up to 90% of the poultry feed produced in Bangladesh is contaminated - and exports also come from countries without proper quality control.
