A new super rice plant has been developed which could benefit countries with flooding problems.
A study in Nature describes how the rice elongates rapidly, growing "snorkels" when exposed to floods.
Scientist Motoyaki Ashikari from Nagoya University in Japan, said the impact of the crop ''is huge".
Up to 30% of rice in Asia, and 40% in Africa, is thought to be subject to flash floods or deep water.
